Random Lincoln Moments

Just some random Lincoln moments from the last week....

- The other morning we woke up with Lincoln in our bed (not necessarily an unusual thing). He popped right up, leaned over Andy and said "Da-da, tickle tickle" while trying to tickle Andy.

- I spent a few nights in Spokane this last week for school. I had the bright idea of video chatting with Andy and Lincoln. I thought Lincoln would get a kick out of it. Well he didn't. In fact, I think it just reminded him that I was not home. He sobbed on the phone and according to Andy it took him 15 minutes after we hung up to calm down.

- I was gone for 4 days and when I came home, I could not believe all that Lincoln had learned in such a short amount of time. I asked him how his week was (and I'm not kidding), he pointed up and garbled "balloon"...all the while pointing at his birthday balloon that was floating near the ceiling. Seriously? His language developement is amazing! I then asked him where Lucy was and he turned around and pointed at the dog. Crazy!

- Speaking of Lucy, Lincoln has learned to grab and pull her tail. We are working on it. Lucy has been handling it really well though. She just tolerates it and jumps away when she as the chance. I'm proud of that little pup.

My baby is becoming a toddler!

Well Lincoln turned one this past 4th of July. In some ways it feels like the last year has taken forever (lack of sleep will do that to you) and in other ways it has flown by. We celebrated by having a couple dozen people over for a barbeque and we completely lucked out with great weather! As usual I over stressed about the event and probably went over board on some of the decorations but then again, Lincoln will only turn 1 once, right? Some of my favorite memories of Lincoln's day included watching him play in the yard with his cousins, cuddling with him while watching fireworks and, of course, watching him completely chow down on his birthday cake. He was really funny because he'd eat some of the frosting and then pause when everyone would laugh. He eventually dove in and decimated his smash cake - and he ate 3/4 of it. Apparently he got his mother's love of sweets! All in all, it was a great day and it is now obvious that my sweet baby boy is turning into a sweet (and occasionally not so sweet) toddler!

Proud of Myself

I was able to check off another box on my bucket list this week. I completed my first half-marathon! I know this isn't a big deal to some people but it's a pretty big accomplishment for me. As anyone who is reading this knows - I had a baby less than a year ago. And, not only did I have a baby but I had the pleasure of going through 24 hours of labor, having a c-section and then having the additional pleasure of experiencing some pretty painful complications. My recovery took forever and 7 or 8 months ago I wasn't sure I'd ever physically feel the same as I did before I got pregnant. So this half-marathon proves that although motherhood has changed me in many ways, it has not limited my physical capabilities! So that makes me a happy girl.

Lincoln's Daddy

Yesterday was Andy's first Fathers Day as a Dad. Other than driving home from our weekend in Lake Chelan and the brief stop in Leavenworth, we didn't do much to celebrate. Andy said all he wanted was one weekend to be able to clean out his garage so I'm going to try and make that happen within the next couple of months! I might have to split it up though as free time is a hot commodity around here! Anyways - yesterday was a great reminder as to how lucky I am to have Andy as my husband and as the father of my child. I REALLY couldn't ask for more. He is absolutely wonderful with Lincoln and that boy LOVES his Daddy (as do I).

Our life is busy

Our life, at what I lovingly call Puckett Family Headquarters, has been crazy the last few weeks. I, of course, have my normal full time job and the spring/summer season is Andy's really busy time at work. The poor guy has been juggling multiple contracting and remodel jobs for a couple of months now and there is no end in sight. It's great for our pocketbook but not so great on Andy's mental and physical health. He's a trooper though! To top off our normal commitments - I'm also back in Grad school AND we now have a very mobile infant who insists on getting his hands on anything and everything. We call him Lincoln "Danger" Puckett - mainly because he used to love being thrown up in the air and now it's because the kid just won't stop. He has a perpetual bruise on his forehead because he's constantly falling or bumping into something. In fact I just received a text from my sister (Lincoln's babysitter) that says he has another bruise on his face. Apparently this time he smacked his face on the TV stand in the living room. Oh dear.... As for Grad school - I'm just a few classes away from my Masters in Organizational Leadership. I've been working on it for years. I took a break when I found out I was pregnant. We had just gutted the house for the kitchen and living room remodel and I just couldn't handle remodeling, pregnancy (also known as extreme exhaustion), work and school at the same time. So now that that's over with....I'm back at it. This semester I'm taking two classes. One is a team building class and the other is a class on "hardiness". It's actually a pretty interesting course - it focuses on individual resiliency and internal motivation. The coolest part of the class is the group activity though. At the end of July we will all be climbing Mt. Adams (or attempting to). The goal is to reach the summit in 2 days. The mountain is to serve as a metaphor and/or a test of our own personal hardiness. Do we have the commitment necessary to do it? I sure hope I do - otherwise the $1000 in equipment I just bought will be for nothing!

Blogging Failure

So I made the decision to start blogging and then I failed to write another post for over 4 weeks. Oh well....here I go again....

Blogging Bandwagon

A friend of mine recently told me that he is taking a trip to the wonderfully amazing country of Vietnam. He asked for my travel advice as a travel aficionado (well maybe I'm not quite an expert but I AM enthusiastic about traveling and I HAVE been to Vietnam). Anyways, while talking to my friend I remembered that I blogged during my Vietnam travels. So I pulled up my old blog and realized, through reading my posts, that I had already forgotten so many details of my trip and it's only been two years! It got me thinking - what else have I forgotten about my life? What other important memories are long gone because I didn't write them down? I can imagine I've lost quite a few life details. Some would say - so what...that's life. And the younger Shauna might have agreed with them. However, the new Mom in me cringes at the thought of losing memories of my sons first year of life and all of the important, albeit little, experiences my family has endured, accomplished, etc. With that being said, I'm officially jumping back on the blogging bandwagon. I think I may have had a total of 3 Vietnam blog followers and I'll probably be lucky to have that many for this one however that's not really what's important. The importance is memory preservation, a forum for my rants/raves/passions and something for me to do when I'm procrastinating. Andrew and Lincoln - I will try not to embarrass you.
